DEVELOPING SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE TOGETHER THROUGH A CONVERSATIONAL APPROACH

The teacher responds to children’s ideas as they arise. The children are encouraged to reason out their ideas, through challenging their answers. This takes the children’s learning forward and develops their science and language further. This is illustrated in the clips.

Through keeping our learning journal we have noticed that once a scientific idea or word is used in a group conversation, an individual will start to use and apply it for themselves.

You can see how this ‘science’ work is also developing language, communication and group work skills (Learning journal 1February 2008)
