SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE EMERGENCE

These examples show some of the children’s questions about plastic:
  • Does plastic float?
  • How do we make plastic?
  • Why is it different colours?
  • Why does it come from a factory?
  • Where does it come from?
  • What colour is it?
  • How is it made into toys?
  • Can I look for plastic?
Children are grouped into those with similar questions so they can work with an adult to find the answers. We try to model scientific language as early as possible. Here the teacher is encouraging the children to think about how they might find out more about their material.
