OBSERVING A CONVERSATIONAL APPROACH

We value any opportunities to stand back and allow children to investigate and explore freely, initially, without adult intervention. This enables us to observe independent learning and talk. Children’s conversations are transcribed in a detailed reflective journal, together with any additional information e.g., very windy weather/cold, noise (building sites), or other incidents occupying the child’s mind.

Transcript

The teaching assistant writing children’s ideas in our learning journal. This lets us know the children’s ideas on the topic and background knowledge that they bring. We can use this to build on, develop or challenge them into new ways of thinking.
