The Dramatic Science approach provides a first hand opportunity for children to engage directly with scientific processes and concepts.

It facilitates enactment and exploration in various ways to examine appropriate scientific objects, ideas and perspectives. It encourages the development of curiosity and confidence in acting and talking about science at KS 1 & 2 and appears to support the development of scientific understanding. It is hoped that the enjoyable and useful ways that children are introduced to science will lay foundations not easily eroded, and help impede the declining interest in science at the end of KS 2.

What do children think?

Student review at the end of the project :

Most children have said they like using drama to learn science. Older children have said, "because it is fun and it explains more", as well as "you act out and you can see what it is and it helps" . The younger children say it is "bekuse you hat to yous your amagenashon".

What do teachers think?

Teacher review at the end of the project :

This is the best course I've ever been on and that's the truth! I particularly liked the last workshop ……we learn best as teachers when we are pretending to be children. It's like you've switched a little switch on and performed as a teacher and I loved seeing that – I thought it was amazing and I thought the calibre of the rest of the group with their ideas and how everyone listens was brilliant!
