FOSTERING LEARNING IN EXPLORATORY PLAY

This clip illustrates fostering a link to previous learning about living / non-living things. These links are made explicit by the teacher as she reads the story and thus merges learning from a previous session and context to the current one.

We encourage the children to tell their parents what they have been exploring at school. We suggest to the parents ways in which they might encourage exploration through play at home; for example, give time, use as wide a range of materials as possible, support children’s play with questions and value children’s contributions. Children are also encouraged to share their experiences back in school.
