REFLECTIVE JOURNEYS

Conversational approach

Carol a Foundation Stage teacher, and Alison her teaching assistant, illustrate the importance of collaboration in developing professional practice. They introduce strategies they find successful to engage and assess children’s learning. These include the use of a photographic journal that provides opportunities to re-visit and re-think ideas. They enthuse about their learning journal which captures children’s ideas in their own words. The teachers use these opportunities as assessment tools to inform their practice in the next stage of the children’s learning. Finally, they introduce Professor Sidney, a classroom character who supports lines of enquiry. Note how children are encouraged to involve parents as learning partners in the use of these resources.

The Headteacher of Carol and Alison’s school endorses the positive learning experience (pdf, 1.3mb).
